Day 2 - Afternoon Pictures

Here are a few more pictures from the afternoon of Day 2 (Sunday). Kids are now all up for Day 3 and headed off to breakfast in the rain. :)

1. Afternoon recreation with their Bible study groups.

2 . Afternoon rotations - Our campers signed up for activities such as canoeing, crafts, cooking, drama, music, and sports.

 3.  Afternoon free time campers swam at the pool, went to the camp store, made bandanarama bracelets, and play gaga ball.

4. Worship Response time - each night after worship our church group gets together to talk about what we learned during the day. Last night during our worship response time the campers were making prayer flags. During worship time, in our prayer experience, we were instructed to draw a picture on the prayer flag. The picture would represent their prayer to God.

5. Missions Night Market - The campers went through a simulated India Villiage of the Banjara people. Campers learned and experienced many activities they helped them learn about the culture of the Banjara people.

Camp Day 2 Videos

Here are a few videos from our fun day yesterday.

1.  "Follow The Road" Theme Song

2. "Cow, Cow,  Lasso" - a silly song we sing during Morning Celebrations. It's one of my favorites!

3. A silly chaperone game from Day 1's Opening Celebration. Thanks to our male chaperone, Byron Melton, for being such a great sport!

Day 2 PASSPORTkids Camp

Day 2 of camp (Sunday) has gotten off to a great start. As I write this, our campers are off to morning Bible study and recreation.

Today our focus verse is "Love The Lord your God with all your heart, all your being, and all your strength." Deuteronomy 6:5 (CEB)

Since our theme is "Follow the Road," we have met some characters from Wizard of Oz who are teaching is a few things. This morning in Morning Celebration, Dorothy met the Scarecrow and Tin Man. They taught is that we need a brain (mind) and a heart when loving God; just like our Bible verse says.

Enjoy these few pics from this morning!

1. Early morning gaga ball, a favorite game at camp. When your camper returns home, have them explain gaga ball to you.

2. Enjoying a yummy breakfast of French toast, sausage, cereal, and fruit.

3. Morning Celebration

4. Morning devotions

PASSPORTkids! Day 1

Day one is coming to a close, and boy it was a great day! Here are some of the highlights:

1. We started camp off with our opening celebration. It was exciting to meet our camp staffers all the other campers from other churches.

2. We were assigned Bible study groups for the week and had our first Bible study session.

3. We had our first meal at camp and the food was great. I promise all kids ate something. :)

4. We had our first worship service tonight as well. During the service we had a prayer experience where we contemplated the road we have traveled on in our life.

To represent all our different roads and paths we each take, we took a ribbon and wove it in a fence. Some roads were strait, some curved, some even looped back on itself.

Our Bible story tonight was about Joseph. The "road" or journey Joseph took in his life was full of unexpected twists and turns. He was sold as a slave by his jealous brothers. He was put in prison after being accused of a crime. Through each twist his road took, God was with him. God ended up using Joseph's journey to help him become second in command to pharaoh.

During our prayer experience we prayed that god would continue to be with us as we journeyed on each of our roads.

5. Sloz Rec party was tonight. The kids played in wet, messy games. They all had a blast and are now currently waiting in the line for showers to clean off the slime. :)

We are all looking forward to a good night's rest and so we can have another exciting day at camp!

On the road

We have had a successful morning so far. We are about 35 minutes from camp and have made a pit stop for yummy sub sandwiches at Subway.

The kids have been great! They are talking non stop and are excited to get to camp. They are already talking about swimming and playing gaga ball.

Here's our first group photo from this morning before we left rainy Marietta.

PASSPORTkids Camp 2014 - Follow The Road

In a few short hours 23 kids and 4 adults from First Baptist Church Marietta will be heading to PASSPORTkids Camp in Crossville, TN. We will join several other churches from the southeast for 4 days of camp where we will grow in our relationships with each other and with God.

At camp kids will participate in Bible study groups, recreation, worship, mission activities, swimming, canoeing, messy game night, a Missions Night Market, a variety show, and lots of other fun filled activities.

During our time at camp the these will be Follow The Road. Our key verse for the week will be John 14:6a, " Jesus said, 'I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me.'" (The Message)

"A road may be the familiar one we travel every day, or it may be a new one that leads to lots of interesting places. There may be twists and turns and intersections where we have choices to make.

Choosing to follow Christ is like setting out on a journey. The early disciples followed Jesus on roads through Galilee, over the mountains, and all the way to Jerusalem, learning and serving and helping. How will our life—our journey—be different with Jesus guiding us? Will we let go of old, selfish ways of doing things and become more loving? Will we use all our heart and mind in our relationships with God and others? Will we go out of our way to stand up for people who are suffering? Will we let God give us the power to help others?

Every day, God provides new opportunities for us to follow Jesus’ example and teachings. Wherever we are, we are “on the Road.” And even when faced with the unexpected, we can be sure of one thing... God is with us as we Follow the Road. " [Taken from PASSPORTkids! Group Leader Packet.]

As we prepare to journey along this road together, keep us in your prayers. Pray for safety. Pray for the PASSPORTkids! Staff that will be leading us. Pray for rest at night. Pray that we all, young and old, continue to grow in our journey as we all follow the road together.
